CLEAR-PC (Cancer Literacy Education and Awareness Resources for Prostate Care) addresses the critical issue of low health literacy (HL) in prostate cancer prevention and care, recognising that inadequate HL leads to difficulties in understanding complex medical information, limits shared decision-making (SDM), and increases health inequalities.
Given the high prevalence and complexity of prostate cancer, the project aims to design and develop a comprehensive strategy to improve HL in the context of prostate cancer prevention and care, considering individual capacities, the role of healthcare professionals and organisations, and the influence of social and cultural contexts.

CLEAR-PC Specific Objectives

Map the levels of digital and non-digital health literacy in prostate cancer early diagnosis/screening, treatment decision-making, and palliative care by identifying the extent to which patients, healthcare professionals, and carers understand and use health information and digital tools related to prostate cancer.

Conduct a review of existing information, tools, and strategies on digital and non-digital health literacy in the EU and globally, focusing on their application in healthcare and educational contexts.

Analyse the impact of social determinants of health, such as socio-economic status, education, ethnicity, and access to healthcare, on digital and non-digital health literacy competences, knowledge, and skills by assessing the extent to which these determinants are considered in existing health education resources.

Design and develop the CLEAR-PC strategy to improve digital and non-digital health literacy related to prostate cancer early diagnosis/screening, treatment decision-making, and palliative care at the individual, organizational, and societal levels.

Pilot the developed strategy to improve health literacy related to prostate cancer through several studies at different stages of the healthcare process: screening, diagnosis, and treatment.

Widely disseminate the CLEAR-PC strategy to ensure broad awareness and uptake, and develop sustainable follow-up actions that support its long-term integration into healthcare systems, clinical practice, and professional education.
